A Romantic Timepiece to Express Your Love

Since 2016, the House of Harry Winston has celebrated Valentine’s Day with an exceptional timepiece. Continuing the tradition, Valentine’s Day is commemorated with a romantic limited edition rose gold timepiece from the Premier Collection.

Valentine’s Day is universally celebrated with red, pink, and white motifs, representing passion, friendship, and purity, respectively. Enhancing the lively scenery, the snow white bird is applied to the dial, along with clouds created using mother-of-pearl marquetry a refined and delicate technique where thin slivers of mother-of-pearl are arranged within a frame. The applied elements and gemstones set above the white mother-of-pearl background add to the dial’s exceptional depth.

Like many timepieces at Harry Winston, natural mother-of-pearl takes center stage in the composition, animating the bird’s soft, white, downy body and the fluffy clouds in the background. Echoing the purity of sentiment expressed by the timepiece, the white mother-of-pearl is a deliberate choice, symbolizing prosperity, power, and eternity. Renowned for its natural iridescence, mother-of-pearl puts on a spectacular show. Depending on the angle, the light is reflected and refracted, producing the characteristic luster and a gorgeous, shimmering rainbow of colors.

Rich red rubies and pink sapphires add a romantic touch of color to the pristine scenery. Arranged around the edge, the marquise-cut gemstones pay homage to an iconic setting of the House of Harry Winston. Developed in the 1940s, Mr. Winston and his designers pioneered a technique that emphasized the beauty of the individual stones. Known as the Winston Cluster, the almost invisible mountings allow the stones’ facets to interact with light, maximizing their brilliance. The six marquise-cut rubies set at 3 and 9 o’clock capture light from all directions and are arranged like petals of a flower. Using a gradient setting, the rubies are flanked by lighter-colored pink marquise-cut sapphires, which, in turn, transition to even lighter blushing pink sapphires.

No dial would be complete without a splash of Harry Winston diamonds. Featured on the hour and minute disc, 40 brilliant-cut diamonds illuminate the sunray dial with their radiance. In pride of place, the large emerald-cut diamond at noon is yet another nod to Mr. Winston’s high jewelry legacy, showcasing his favorite octagonal cut for gemstones.
